Basic Information

Duration: 5 days

Prerequisites

  • WINDA Registration
  • Medical Fitness: GWO BST - Offshore training often involves physical activity, including climbing simulations and working at height exercises. Therefore, participants must be medically fit to participate safely.

Renewal:
GWO BST has a validity period of 2 years

What is a Blended option?

Blended offers a combination of e-learning and practical course delivery within the training centre.

The delivery of the theory (classroom based) elements of the course will be conducted by participants completing compulsory e-learning prior to attending the training centre to complete the practical training elements. Although the total learning time remains the same, conducting the training this way allows delegates to conduct the theory based learning at a time and location

Delegates will be enrolled to their e-learning approximately 3 weeks prior to the chosen practical training date to the email address provided.

Bundle includes:

GWO Sea Survival

Offshore Environment: This section introduces participants to the unique challenges and hazards of the offshore environment, including sea sickness, hypothermia, and helicopter emergencies.

Abandon Ship Procedures: Participants learn the proper procedures for abandoning a wind turbine platform in case of an emergency, including life raft operation and survival techniques at sea.

First Aid at Sea: The course emphasizes basic first aid principles that can be applied in a limited-resource environment at sea, focusing on treating potential injuries and illnesses until help arrives.

GWO Fire Awareness

Fire Types and Risks: This section covers different fire types and the specific fire risks associated with wind turbine environments, including electrical fires and hydraulic fluid fires.

Firefighting Equipment: Participants learn about the different types of portable fire extinguishers and how to use them effectively for various fire types.

Fire Safety Procedures: The course emphasizes the importance of fire prevention strategies and safe evacuation procedures in the event of a fire on an offshore wind turbine platform.

GWO First Aid

Core First Aid Techniques: This section covers essential first aid skills like CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) for adults, children, and infants, using mannequins for practice.

Casualty Assessment: Participants learn how to assess a casualty's condition, including vital signs (breathing, pulse) and level of consciousness, to provide appropriate first aid.

Wound Care and Bleeding Control: The course teaches techniques for dressing and bandaging various wounds, along with procedures for controlling serious bleeding using pressure bandages or tourniquets (as a last resort)

GWO Working at Heights and Manual Handling

Working at Heights:

Focus: This section emphasizes the specific hazards associated with working at height in wind turbine environments. This includes working on platforms, towers, and nacelles.

Safe Work Practices: Participants learn about proper use of personal fall protection equipment (harnesses, lanyards, etc.), pre-use inspections, safe anchoring procedures, and fall arrest techniques.

Rescue Techniques: The course covers basic emergency rescue procedures for situations where a worker might be suspended after a fall.

Manual Handling:

Focus: This section addresses the safe handling of objects and materials within wind turbine settings.

Safe Lifting Techniques: Participants learn proper lifting postures to prevent back injuries and musculoskeletal disorders.

Hazard Identification: The course emphasizes identifying potential hazards associated with manual handling tasks in wind turbine environments, including uneven surfaces, limited space, and heavy loads.

Teamwork and Communication: Participants understand the importance of clear communication and teamwork when lifting heavy objects or maneuvering equipment, especially at height.
